His first love was cricket. But, he settled for a film career when he realized that he could never play as well as ace cricketer Gundappa Viswanath.

He left the film industry at the peak of his career in 1982, to follow in the spiritual path of leader Osho Rajneesh. Nevertheless, he made a successful comeback in 1987 with Insaaf starring Dimple Kapadia.

Due to their striking resemblance, his brother Pramod Khanna played the role of Prajapati Pandey in Dabangg 3 (starring Salman Khan) after Vinod’s death.

Feroz Khan, his longtime friend and co-star in Qurbani, died on the same date as Khanna i.e., 27th April but, in 2009.
