Teodor Davidov, a 12-year-old Bulgarian-born American boy who plays tennis without a backhand thanks to his ambidextrous tennis style, manages to hit the ball with forehand or drive shots every time thanks to his ability to switch racquets.
A video from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), showing Davidov's progress playing without a backhand, "right-handed or left-handed?" has gone viral and has once again put the young Bulgarian-born prodigy into the news.
To achieve this curious skill Teodor Davidov trains between 30 and 40 hours a week.
Where does Davidov's backhandless ambidextrous style of play come from?
Kalin Davidov, father of Teodor, is the architect of his son's ambidextrous playing style that has gone viral on social media since 2021.
"When Teo was about to turn eight, I decided to have him start playing left-handed to affect the right hemisphere of his brain. He is too extroverted, fiery and a bit unbalanced, so I only wanted to affect the right hemisphere of his brain, using the left side of his body. The balance between the left and right hemisphere is crucial," Kalin told the Guardian.
