Spurs guarantee entertainment

Forest’s survival last season was built on some excellent home results, with 30 of their 38-point tally earned at the City Ground. But they have won just one of their previous seven home league and cup matches and have failed to beat promoted clubs Luton Town and Burnley in that time.

Tottenham head to the East Midlands in good heart after an impressive 4-1 win over Newcastle United they have lost just one of their eight away league games, a run that includes draws against last season’s top two, Arsenal and Manchester City.

A win for Ange Postecoglou side would put them level on points with fourth-placed City and, having won both meetings between the sides last year, they will be confident of collecting three points.

However, their defence has looked shaky since Micky van de Ven’s untimely injury and both teams have found the net in their last seven matches, so take the same outcome as part of an away victory.

Richarlison finding his feet

Richarlison polarises opinion but he silenced some of his critics with two well-taken goals against Newcastle on Sunday and he could add to his tally against Forest.

The hosts have shipped 13 goals in their previous five games and could be even more vulnerable at the back after centre-back Murillo was forced off with a hamstring injury in the draw at Wolves.

Richarlison was making just his fifth start of the season as a striker against Newcastle – his other appearances from the off this term have been as a left winger – and he has scored three goals when leading the line for Spurs. That suggests he can breach a Reds defence low on confidence.

Bissouma the pass master

Our final selection combines three markets in Paddy Power’s bet-builder function to provide an 8/1 wager.

Forest have recorded the fourth-lowest average possession per game in the Premier League this season, with their 40.3 per cent share of the ball better than only fellow relegation candidates Everton, Sheffield United and Luton Town.

Last week, when Spurs faced West Ham United – the side directly above Forest in the possession stats – Yves Bissouma made 118 passes, and he could again run the show at the City Ground, with a similarly high figure expected from the Tottenham midfielder.

Six of Spurs’ eight Premier League away games this term have produced over 2.5 goals and, with Forest having shipped so many goals in their recent fixtures, there should be plenty of clear-cut chances at the City Ground. We’re taking that number to be passed again.

While Tottenham may dominate the ball against Forest, they may also be susceptible to falling foul of referee Jarred Gillett. The Lilywhites have picked up 46 yellow cards this season, the fourth-highest tally in the Premier League, and the pace of the game could leave them exposed at the back.

As Forest’s low average possession stats show, they will look to hit Tottenham on the counter and the likes of Bissouma, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie, who have picked up a combined 13 bookings in the league this season, may be forced into tactical fouls to halt and be shown the most cards.
