Nancy Patricia Pelosi’s Biography
Nancy Pelosi, an American politician, was born on 26th March 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is widely recognized for her role as the Democrats’ Minority Leader in the House of Representatives. Nancy has been actively involved in politics since the early 1960s.
As of mid-2017, Nancy Pelosi’s wealth is estimated to be over $140 million, mainly accrued from her extensive involvement in politics spanning more than 50 years and from various business investments. Her annual salary in her role as the Minority Leader is $193,000.
Nancy Patricia D’Alesandro has a predominantly Italian lineage. After completing her education at the Catholic all-girls Institute of Notre Dame High School in Baltimore, she graduated from (now) Trinity Washington University in 1962 with a BA in political science. Her initial job was as an intern for Senator Daniel Brewster. It was during this time that she married Paul Frank Pelosi in 1963. They relocated to San Francisco, where her political participation further escalated. She became a member of the California Democratic Party, then the Democratic National Committee, and subsequently held various party positions in California. Eventually, she was elected to the House of Representatives from the 5th district in 1987 and has been re-elected 10 times, leading to a steady increase in her net worth.
Pelosi held several committee positions in Congress before being elected as the Democrats’ Minority Whip in 2001, subsequently becoming the Minority Leader in the following year, marking her as the first woman to hold either position. In 2007, she was elected the 60th Speaker of the House of Representatives, once again making history as the first woman to assume this role, which she held until 2011. While she was the Speaker, Nancy Pelosi faced unfavorable public opinion, with 64% holding a negative attitude towards her. Despite this, she was re-elected as the Minority Leader in 2011, a position she continues to hold.
Similar to other politicians, Nancy Pelosi has not been immune to controversies and allegations throughout her career. In 2011, Pelosi, along with several other members of Congress, was accused of leveraging information from closed sessions for financial gain in the stock market. Despite denying these allegations, they adversely affected her public image. Nevertheless, Nancy Pelosi is a respected politician who was honored with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2007 and was featured in Forbes magazine’s list of the “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women”.
In her personal life, Nancy has been married to Paul Frank Pelosi since 1963, and they have five children. Nancy and Paul continue to reside in San Francisco.

1 | [on Stephen K. Bannon] It’s a stunning thing, that a white supremacist would be a permanent member of the National Security Council. What’s making America less safe is to have a white supremacist named to the National Security Council as a permanent member while the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the director of national intelligence are told, “Don’t call us, we’ll call you.” (February, 2017) |
2 | [on California Attorney-General Kamala Harris] The child who witnessed the civil rights movement from a stroller has taken a lead role in the fight for marriage equality by challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8.
