Lola Falana spent most of her childhood in her birthplace. At the age of 3, she started dancing and by age 5 she was singing in the church choir. While she was in junior high school, she began dancing in nightclubs.

Before finding work, she often slept in subway stations. Later she got a job in a nightclub as a dancer where she was discovered by Sammy Davis Jr., who gave her a featured role in his Broadway musical, “Golden Boy.”

Falana’s debut single, “My Baby,” was recorded by Mercury Records. And later she released her singles, “Coconut Grove,” “Scrivimi il tuo nome and Tutta Donna under Frank Sinatra’s record Label. In her disco record, “There’s A Man Out There Somewhere” reached no 67 on the Billboard R&B chart. 

Further, she re-joined Broadway as the lead in the musical Doctor Jazz. Even though the production closed after 5 performances, she was nominated for a “Tony Awards” as well as won the Theatre World Award.

Later she moved to Las Vegas and became a top draw and was considered the Queen of Las Vegas. At that time, she was the highest paid female performer in Las Vegas. She was offered $100,000 weekly to perform for The Aladdin.

Apart from the music industry, in 1966, Lola Falana stepped in the Hollywood with her debut movie “A Man Called Adam.” In the following year, she was featured in three movies including “I’ll Try Tonight,” “Lola Colt,” and “When I Say That I Love You”.

Till the date, she starred in 9 movies including Mary’s Land, Mad About You, Lady Cocoa and many others. In television, she first appeared in the series “Sabato sera.” She is well known for her work in “The New Bill Cosby Show,” “The Street of San Francisco,” “The Muppet Show,” and “Capitol.”
