25 Year old Trini Savah, is American born singer/songwriter.
The rising star was born in Philadelphia and has spent time in LA, honing her craft.
Trini is signed to an independent label, and has her debut single and album due out later this year.
I was lucky enough to catch up with future star for a quick chat about her career goals, her childhood and what her dream collaboration would be.
Growing up in Philadelphia what was your childhood like?
I had a very active childhood. I played soccer and basketball. I was in the choir, stage plays, and active in all school activities.
What is your earliest memory of music?
6 years old. My father would spend tons of time with Kurupt and Snoop in the studio and when I inquired he would explain the music process. I was interested from that point on!
How old were you when you first realized you could sing?
6 years old. I would sing every holiday carol, Disney movie theme songs, hymns, and started karaoke when I was 8.
When did you first perform live?
When I was 14 years old I opened up for the male pop group B2K at a Power 99 FM sponsored event.
Were your family supportive of you wanting to become a professional singer?
Somewhat, because the main focus was always education. But after I performed on, The Jay Leno Tonight Show, I was told to follow my dream, but still get an education.
Who are your musical influences?
Missy Elliot, Timberland, Pharell (Neptunes), Aaliah, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.
What is your all time favourite song?
A song for you by Donny Hathaway, it has so much meaning, it’s so real.
(This song was covered by Leon Russel (original artist), Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, and Christina Aguilera)
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose?
Pharrell
What has been the favourite gig you have performed at?
The Nike Convention hosted by L.A. Kiss FM radio outside of the famous Staple Centre.
Would you ever consider entering a talent show such as The X Factor?
Not at this point in my career as I look forward to the release of my first single within 30 days, my EP this fall, and my first CD at the end of the year.
What venue would be your dream to play?
Madison Square Garden. But for now, I’m elated that my single has been made public and is available for listening.
What do you think about free music streaming, do you think it is damaging the music industry?
It’s such a difficult topic for me. Yes, it is hurting the music industry for sure. But I also believe people who aren’t fortunate enough to purchase music should still be able to have access. Music soothes the soul, it’s necessary for everyone. However, on the other side (mysids) an artist has a right to be paid for their music. Confused yet? Because I am.
If you could change anything about the industry what would you change?
Exploitation
What would you like to achieve in your career?
I would like to achieve stardom and name recognition, so that I would be influential to the illness I’m most passionate about. People, especially young people taking their life. There is a way out. There are people who care. I care.
