From posting covers of songs on her social media to writing and releasing originals, Cailee Rae has come a long way. Not only has she absolutely nailed covers of songs from our favourite artists, but she also puts a unique spin on them, leaving audiences wanting to hear more of her voice. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised to see her sharing the stage with some of these artists soon.

Just recently, she released her debut EP Overthinking and we got to chat with her about the EP, her development as an artist, and her plans for the future!

How would you describe your musical style?

My music style is definitely pop, but with a lot of different genres within it. It’s really different but relatable.

Where do you get most of your musical inspiration?

I pull inspiration from EVERYTHING. People I work with, my life, movies, other singers etc.

Is there an artist or band that’s inspired your musical sound the most?

So many do. Taylor Swift inspires me because she’s so confident and entertaining, Ed Sheeran’s songwriting inspires me and more recently, I have been really inspired by Jon Bellion because he is so unique.

How did it feel when you first noticed your covers going viral?

Honestly, I was shocked. I still cannot grasp it. I just love what I do.  To know it impacts people in different ways makes me feel so happy.

Your debut EP, Overthinking is out and we’ve had it on replay! What’s something you hope that listeners will enjoy the most about the EP?

Thank you so much.  I just hope they have a fun time listening to the songs and really connect to each one. Every song tells a story and makes you feel a different way. I hope people relate to them.

Do you have a favourite song on Overthinking?

I love all of them so much. One of my favorites is “Surrender.”

What have you found to be the most challenging part of putting together an EP?

I think every part of it is challenging. From the beginning, writing and picking which songs to record is tough, and then all the hard work in the studio. Then, choosing the artwork and making it all tie together. Each part is a different challenge but it’s so fun.

How do you think you’ve evolved as an artist from your first cover until now?

I think I have matured a lot. My voice and songs have matured and it has all kind of grown with me as teenager. I’m excited to see where it keeps growing to.

You released an absolutely phenomenal music video for “Anchor” a little while back, and you came up with the concept entirely on your own. How was that experience?

Thank you so much. It’s not easy! A lot goes into it. It was super fun to see how everyone and everything works and be so involved behind the scenes. It was completely unforgettable.

What is a milestone you’d like to achieve in your music career?

I just want to fill stadiums with love and people who all connect to each other and my music. I want to inspire people and simply make them happy. Music has always been there for me, so I want to do the same for others.

If you weren’t making music, what career path could you see yourself in?

Honestly, I have no clue. I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Say something happens to your music library on your phone or other listening device, and you can only save one album to listen to. Which album do you save?

Purpose by Justin Bieber. Ugh. That album is just perfect.

We hear you’d like to go on tour sometime. When that happens, we’ll definitely be in the crowd! Is there a particular city that you’ve always wanted to visit?

Aw. Thank you so much. I have always wanted to go to Japan. I think it would be so cool.

Are there any artists you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

I think Ed Sheeran would be a cool collaboration or Skrillex.

Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

I love you all SO much. Thank you for always supporting me and giving me the best love. I love all of you and hope to meet all of you someday. CaiBaes forever!
