There were no surprises for the Cowboys with their game day inactives, with Tyron Smith, expectedly, headlining the group. Smith did not practice all week due to a knee injury that kept him out of last week against the Cardinals.
The Cowboys did get two of their starting offensive linemen back this week, as right guard Zack Martin and center Tyler Biadasz are both active after being listed as questionable. Both missed the Cowboys’ game last week in Arizona. This gives the Cowboys four of their five starters on the offensive line, with Tyler Smith at left guard, Biadasz at Center, Martin at right guard and Terence Steele at right tackle.
Chuma Edoga is expected to slide into Tyron Smith’s spot at left tackle. If the need arises, the Cowboys do have the option to kick Tyler Smith out to left tackle, where he played effectively last year for the Cowboys as a rookie. Edoga has the versatility to play left guard, which he did the first two games of this season in place of the injured Tyler Smith.
Backup tight end Peyton Hendershot is inactive after being added to the injury report on Friday with an ankle injury. The Cowboys elevated tight end Sean McKeon from the practice squad on Saturday, which was a good indicator that Hendershot would not be able to play. Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker would seem to be the primary tight end options in the passing game.
Jalen Brooks, Eric Scott, Trey Lance, Israel Mukuamu and Viliami Fehoko are the remaining Cowboys inactives, with Lance serving as the emergency third quarterback. For the Patriots, Will Grier is inactive and serving as the emergency third quarterback. Grier, who played the final preseason game in Dallas, was on the field hours before the game visiting with some players and support staff from the Cowboys.
